When I first get a call from a client we set up a meeting where I come to their home to do an interview to see if we would be a good match. We go over my letter of agreement which usually answers a lot of questions about what I do do and don't do as a Doula. I go over a basic health history with them and go over their birth plan if they have one. We can go over how to write one if necessary. I also take a tour of their house so I can get a feel for where they will be laboring before we go through the transition to the hospital. I like to know where the blender is, for example, so we can make smoothies to keep her blood sugar up while she is laboring, where the straws are because I am more likely to keep her hydrated and get her to drink if she doesn't have to change positions to sip on juice or water. I like to know were a change of clothes would be if I were to look for them, and so many other things of this nature. We go over which numbers to call to get a hold of me. I love to attend the birth experience the sooner the better. I like to ease into birth with my client, not wait till labor becomes very intense and then get the call. We often eat meals together, go for walks together. I've even gone out to eat and watched movies to pass time with my clients. Did you know that Denny's is the only restaurant open on New Years.. I do. We have a lot of fun together. Then as labor intensifies I'm there to provide comfort measures to keep my moms as calm and at peace as possible, providing reassurance and answering questions. When the time comes we transition to the hospital and I help us to settle into our new environment and continue with support. I advocate for my families while maintaining a teamwork atmosphere with the medical staff. When the birth is complete I help with breastfeeding and facilitate bonding. I do a postpartum visit anytime up to 6 weeks after the birth where I can help with breastfeeding, self care, and infant care. For example, I often help with the fist bath at home. I would love to answer any more questions you may have concerning what my services include.
